எமக்கு வகுப்பெடுக்கும் வெள்ளையர்கள், பிரிட்டனின் நிலவரம் பற்றியும் பேச வேண்டும்
பாராளுமன்றத்தில் இடம்பெற்ற அமர்வின் போது விசேட கூற்றை முன்வைத்தே இவ்வாறு தெரிவித்த அவர் மேலும் பேசுகையில்,
கடந்த மாதம் 29 ஆம் திகதி பிரித்தானியாவில் வடக்கு பிரதேசத்தில் கத்திக்குத்து சம்பவம் ஒன்று இடம்பெற்றுள்ளது.இதனால் இரண்டு சிறுமிகள் உயிரிழந்துள்ளதுடன்,பலர் காயமடைந்துள்ளனர்.இந்த சம்பவத்துடன் தொடர்புடையவர் ஒரு முஸ்லிம் இளைஞர். இதில் பலியான சிறுமிகள் ருவாண்டா நாட்டில் இருந்து வருகை தந்த புகலிடக் கோரிக்கையாளர்கள் என்று ஒருசில ஊடகங்கள் பொய்யான செய்தியை வெளியிட்டுள்ளன.
இந்த சம்பவத்தின் பின்னர் பிரிட்டனின் புறநகர் பகுதிகளில் திட்டமிட்ட வகையில் நிறவெறி தாக்குதல் சம்பவங்கள் இடம்பெற்றுள்ளன.தெற்கு பகுதியில் புகலிடக் கோரிக்கையாளர்கள் தங்கியுள்ள பகுதிகளுக்கு போராட்டக்காரர்கள் தீ வைக்க முயற்சித்துள்ளார்கள்.பாதுகாப்பு தரப்பினர் மீதும் தாக்குதல் நடத்தியுள்ளார்கள்.
பிரிட்டன் பாராளுமன்ற சம்பிரதாயங்களுக்கு அமைவாகவே எமது பாராளுமன்றம் செயற்படுகிறது.இலங்கையின் விவகாரங்கள் பற்றி பிரிட்டன் பாராளுமன்றத்தில் அதிகளவில் பேசப்படும்,தீர்மானங்களும் நிறைவேற்றப்படும்.எனவே இலங்கைக்கு ஜனநாயகம் பற்றி பேசும் பிரிட்டனில் 2011 ஆம் ஆண்டும் நிறவெறி செயற்பாடுகள் மற்றும் போராட்டங்கள் இடம்பெற்றன.இலங்கையில் நடக்கும் சிறு விடயங்களையும் பெரிதுப்படுத்தி எமக்கு வகுப்பெடுக்கும் வெள்ளையர்கள் பிரிட்டனின் நிலைவரம் குறித்தும் கவனம் செலுத்த வேண்டும் என்றார்.

While such comparisons may seem convenient, they fail to recognize the fundamental differences in how these situations are handled.
ReplyDeleteIn the UK, the response to riots and unrest is swift, decisive, and rooted in the rule of law. Those involved in the disturbances are quickly identified, arrested, and brought to justice, irrespective of their social or political affiliations. The British government, in conjunction with local law enforcement, mobilizes all necessary resources to restore order and ensure accountability. The UK has demonstrated that it will not tolerate lawlessness, and its legal system works diligently to hold perpetrators accountable.
Contrast this with the situation in Sri Lanka, where MP Vimal Weerawansa and his associates have been accused of leveraging ethnic tensions for political gain. For instance, during the Dr. Shafi saga, the MP was directly involved in inciting anti-Muslim sentiment, leading to widespread fear and division. Furthermore, during the anti-Muslim riots that occurred across the country in 2018 & 2019, it is well-documented that the police and military forces, rather than protecting innocent civilians, often stood by or even assisted the rioters. This lack of action resulted in loss of life and significant property damage, with very few perpetrators ever being held accountable.
It is disingenuous for MP Weerawansa to draw comparisons with the UK without acknowledging the stark differences in the application of justice. The UK’s approach to law and order serves as a model of impartiality and efficiency—qualities sorely lacking in Sri Lanka, where political influence often shields wrongdoers from facing the consequences of their actions.
If MP Weerawansa wishes to draw lessons from the UK, he should start by advocating for a similar commitment to justice and accountability in Sri Lanka, ensuring that no individual or group is above the law, and that the protection of all citizens, regardless of their ethnicity or religion, is the foremost priority.
