An error occurred due to confusion of parliamentarians with similar names was a talking point at the legislature yesterday.

Minister of Justice Mr. M. U. M. Ali Sabry was supposed to be given a letter of appointment to a particular parliamentary select committee.

However, it is understood that the officials in the parliament were in confusion as they had issued the said letter of appointment to the name of Mr. Ali Sabri Rahim, who happens to be a Puttalam district member of Parliament, representing the Muslim National Alliance (MNA).

SJB’s Colombo district MP SM Marikkar questioned the speaker as to the validity of claims on revoking the issuance of the said appointment letter, which was issued to the wrong person. In reply, Hon. Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardhana stated that it is an error due to the confusion of similar names of new members of parliament.

However, Mr. Ali Sabri Rahim was reported to have stated that he will resign from the said PSC, as he prefers to serve his electors in a more active role. (NewsWire)
