A trivial discord between Ustaz Mansoor and Akurana JU Branch:
-by A Sri Lankan Muslim. Part 1-
It has been reported by some social media that some sort of discord and dissonance took place between Ustaz Mansoor and some members of Akurana group of Jemiath Ulama. My objective in this brief writing is to gauge this problem objectively. Some may like my writing and some others may dislike it. yet, I’m not going to please any one by this writing except Almighty Allah. I will try my best to be impartial and objective in my writing. This writing is not merely done in defence of Ustaz Mansoor and his mission rather this is done in defence of moderation, justice, fairness, ethics and moral standard in accordance with the Holy Qur’an and Sunnah. No one needs to defend Ustaz Mansoor and his mission. Allah’s protection and guardianship are sufficient enough for him. 45 years of Islamic work and dedication to Islamic mission testify his sincerity and his clarity of thought. He has delivered thousands of talks, lectures and sermons all over Sri Lankan Island and abroad. He has written hundreds of articles. He has written and translated many books. All these are testimonies for his good work.
Above all, His Qur’anic interpretation is one of best among Tamil speaking world. I would say that his Quranic interpretation is one of the best Quranic interpretations in our entire Asian region. Without any hesitation I would say that he is one of best interpreters of the Holy Qur’an among Tamil speaking Muslim community today. For me, Allah knows best, he is among one of leading Quranic interpreters in the non-Arab world. We know well there are so many Qur’anic interpreters in the Arab world today and yet, we see a few people who can interpret the Qur’an in the non-Arab world considering all modern development in the fields of sociology, politics, economics, science and other areas of humanities. I happen to read both introductions of Ustaz Mansoor and Prof Haleem for their Qur’anic interpretation (Surat Bakara version of Ustaz) and the Qura’nic translation of Prof Haleem (Oxford translation).
For my surprise, ideas, concepts, approaches of both Prof Haleem’s and Ustaz Mansoor’s are very much identical in their introductions. It made me compare the academic credibility of Ustaz Mansoor with that of Prof Haleem. Prof Haleem is undoubtedly one of leading scholars in Quranic studies in our time. He is one of leaning academics in Quranic studies in the western world. His contribution to the Quranic studies is unique in our time. Prof Haleem is a universal recognised academic authority in Qura’nic sciences. When I read his introduction to his Qura’nic translation in comparison with a copy of Ustaz’s introduction to his Tafsir of Surat Barakat. For my surprise, the thought and ideas of both are identical thoughts. Why do I say here? Because, Ustaz’ reading and understanding of the Qur’anic themes and concepts are identical with world class Muslim academics. Yet, we, Sri Lankans have failed to appreciate his academic contributions. It is not my intention here to make a review of Ustaz’s contribution to the Qura’nic studies (That will take me to write volumes). But all what I want to say here is Ustaz’s knowledge in Qura’nic sciences has without any doubt reached high level of academic standard. So, rather than feeling bad about his achievement and accomplishment, we must appreciate it and acknowledge it. For instance, consider the Quranic classes of Brother Nouman Ali Khan. His Quranic classes are widely accepted among young people of Muslim youth in Europe and beyond. Likewise, Quranic classes of Ustaz has been widely accepted among Tamil speaking Muslim community of Sri Lanka and beyond. So, we must be thankful to Allah for blessing our community with such an Islamic scholar.
Sri Lankan Muslim community must celebrate his academic achievement and success, more importantly, Muslims in Akurana must thank Allah for blessing them with such a gracious Islamic scholar among them. Allah has blessed people of Akurana with his deep insight in Islam and Quranic sciences. Ustaz is an academic and intellectual asset not only for Akurana but also for entire Tamil speaking Muslim world. We can say Inshallah with the translation of his works into many more languages, humanity will benefit from his books and works. We all must pray for his good health and long life to complete the interpretation of the entire Qur’an in the greater interest of humanity. I hope that the volumes of his works will be translated into many languages and more importantly into English and Sinhalese.
It is not surprising to see that many sincere and devoted Muslim scholars come under attacks. Islamic history is full of hatred and revenge for good Muslim scholars. I could recall hundreds of stories. It is not my objective to go that far in history. Unfortunately, to see a group of Muslim clerics making an unwanted criticism of Ustaz Masoor is shocking. Specially when we are living as a minority community in Sri Lanka. We have so many duties and responsibilities to do in Sri Lanka and yet, we concentrate on petty issues.
From prophets to good people encountered these kinds of unwanted criticism and yet, they managed to cope with them with help of Allah. For Ustaz this would not be a big issue. Allama Iqbal, M. Abduh, Maududi, S, Qutub and all other modern Islamic scholars have faced unwanted criticism. People could not understand what Allah Iqbal was talking about. They called him with different names but now people have realised the significance of Iqbal’s thought. Likewise, in Sri Lanka too Muslim clerics shouted at Syththi Lebbe during his time. Now, we have come to know how important his progressive ideas were. Likewise, time will tell us how important are Ustaz’s thought and idea.
We have a lot of duties and responsibilities in this Island. We have a burden of reaching out with the peaceful message of Islam to 90% of Sri Lankans and yet, we have started arguing, fighting and debating for many petty things. Sometimes, knowingly or unknowingly we are engaging in these debates among different Islamic groups. What message are you going to give to the wider Sri Lankan communities about Islam and Muslims? Do not you know that this type of petty argument is not what we need now? Why do they single out Ustaz in their attack and criticism? There may be many reasons for this unwanted discord and disagreement. … To be continued tomorrow inshallah:
What is the real problem?? Can anyone let us know??
ReplyDelete1.Mansoor ustaz not compromise with acju akurana branch.
ReplyDelete2.Ustaz mansoor has given fatwa in qurban matter not according to sharia. He has compicated with acju akurana branch at long time.acju they also was patient long time n waited
try to sort out these religious issues privately.
ReplyDeleteUsthad Mansoor well educated islamic scholar there no any doubt if their any problem with him better talking to solve the problem.
ReplyDeletePersonnel matters are to be discussed in private.
ReplyDeleteBUT when a wrong religious teaching is being wide spread by a brother and if keeps making fatwa that contradicts with sharia or he brings odd matters that confuses public, then Public should be made aware of this issue not privately.
This applies to every one who goes against to the sharia matters that are well accepted by scholars of Ahlus Sunnah.
Personnel matters are to be dealt in private, BUT Religious matters can not be dealt in private, as he has spoken these issues not in private but in public. So it has become obligatory on True Scholars to refute him in public so that people will be safe from wrong understanding.
Those who teach ISLAM from their own understanding and new interpretation, should understand that,
ISLAM is to be understood the way it was understood by the salafus saliheens (3 generaton) and how they practiced as a jamaath.
Alhlul hawa... keep creating new ideology in the name of ijdihaad, but leaving the understanding of sahaaba behind.. is no doubt a clear mistake and misguidance.
May Allah guide us to understand and practice the DEEN of ISLAM as it was understood and practiced by our beloved SAHAABA (ral).
This Usthad was a follower of Sayed Quthub Hassan Banna and Yousuf Qarlavi.. All of them are trouble makers in Islam.
ReplyDeleteGiving Fatwa against Qur’An An Hadees. Usthad Mansoor was guiding youth and many other into wrong direction. They are supporters Sheia as well….
We have to follow ACJU (Qur'an & Hadees) not Sheia’s and his supporters like Mr. Mansoor... .
What about Abdul wahabi..who worked with British to establish sauid Kindom.
ReplyDeleteTell where Qur'an approve it ?did prophet agreed to carve out power ?
Tell me about killing journalist...your wahabi going this now ?
Tell me billions of public money is looted by rulers in Sauidi..who spreads now all radical ideas..it is wahabis of your radical clerics of Saudi.
Assalamu Alaikum,
ReplyDeleteI used to learn Quran explanation from Usthad Mansoor, before knowing the basics. Clearly, I can tell you this Ikhwanis has no any correct tafsir knowledge to explain the Quran. What they can teach you is their own misunderstanding. For them, Sunnah is not important (sillara visayam). They need a khalifa to implement Sunnah. How can a person guide others toward Sunnah without knowing or practicing it? They never give importance to Thauheed and prevent any bid'a or talking against it. These are sillara visayam for them.
"It is prohibited to indulge in Tafsir by mere opinion."
Muhammad bin Jarir reported that Ibn 'Abbas said that the Prophet (Sallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said,
[Whoever explains the Qur'an with his opinion or with what he has no knowledge of, then let him assume his seat in the Fire.]
At-Tirmidhi, An-Nasa'i and Abu Dawud also recorded this Hadith. At-Tirmidhi said, "Hasan".
Explaining what One has Knowledge of, Silence otherwiseThe Salaf used to refrain from explaining what they had no knowledge of. For instance, Ibn Jarir (At-Tabari) reported that Abu Ma'mar said that Abu Bakr As-Siddiq said, " Which land will carry me and which heaven will shade me if I said about Allah's Book that which I have no knowledge of? "
At-Tabari 1:78
The Book of Knowledge (Kitab Al-`Ilm)
Muslim :Book 34 : Hadith 6462
'Abdullah b. 'Amr b. al-'As reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: Verily, Allah does not take away knowledge by snatching it from the people but He takes away knowledge by taking away the scholars, so that when He leaves no learned person, people turn to ignorant as their, leaders; then they are asked to deliver religious verdicts and they deliver them without knowledge, they go astray, and lead others astray.
May Allah Save our sincere brothers and sisters from falling into Misguidance!
May Allah Bless Brother Malhar Zawahir for writing the TRUTH.
ReplyDeleteAlso May Allah guide brother Ateeq Abu and Us in the path of salafus slaiheens ( the 3 successful generation on earth). All who deviated the path of these 3 generations and keep innovating be aware of the Quranic Aya below.
The Meaning:
who deviated from the path of prophet? is it So called Salafi groups or others. In the name of Salafism. You have done all crimes. Murders, looting public funds, Looks some of our Salafi agents in Sri Lanka. They make a big money from Saudi. In the name of poor people they get a lot of Saudi money to enjoy lives.. So many other issues. Today, Salafi are agents do all murder. In Middle East, they are trouble makers. You salafi will do out of window when oil finishes. . All people of Shirk, bida are you friend. you take others as your friends.. your Wali..
ReplyDeleteDear Brother Ateeq Abu;;
ReplyDeleteFirst cool down.. When we are emotional... nothing can come good from our brain except the sataan will easily take control of our brain utter all the words without control of our tong.
Do not relate what Saudi Rulers doing to the people who follow the way of Salafus Saliheens. These two are different from each other.
The people who follow the way of salafus sliheens are trying to follow the way of sahaaba (ral) and the following 2 generation of Islam, as they were recommended by the hadees of Rasoolullah and even Allah recommended sahaaaba (ral) in Quran.
Tell me what is wrong in following the sahaaba (ral), especially like Aboobaker, Umar, Uthman and Ali (ral) ? When we say we wanted to follow their footsteps in understanding and following the ISLAM.. Why you hairs are errected out? Do you think this is wrong way ? Need direct answer not round around.
May Allah guide you brother Ateeq and Us in correct path.
This is our Muslim way of life... criticizing, attacking and abusing each other thus destroying the true spirit of Islam.
ReplyDeleteIt is compulsory and obligatory of every Muslim to learn the Al Quraan, Ahadeeths, Seerah of our prophet Muhammed (SAW), sahabas and its next generation.
Counter arguments will not going to solve our issues.
