How come our marriage certificates containing details about dawry be compliant with sharia low. What we have here in Sri Lanka is a law of the land, adopted to fulfill the requirements of the religious guidelines for Muslims and certain local customs, and NOT SHARIA LAW.
Hence changing the Muslim personal act in Sri Lanka is not way laying hands on the Sharia act.
I call upon a mature approach to this matter, rather than holding place cards like "do not lay hands on sharia law" and "Sharia law - divine law" which has no meaning in this context. These kind of acts will further strengthen the causes of BBS and like minded extremist in goose-mongering general Sinhalese population on Islam-aisation of the country.
Why don't these self proclaimed social reformists call up for removal and prohibition of Dawry in anyway in Muslim Marriage act, regulating marriages below certain age (preferably through Kaazi judges) and strict guidelines for Kaazi judges in acting upon the affairs of divorces, to improve transparency and fairness.
Masha Allah Weldone.

Very good question. They won't do that, most of them may be part of Dowry culture. So they don't want their past to be dug.
