Moulavi Farook of Kotegoda , Hemmathagama passed away on 15/2/2016

Moulavi Farook of kottegoda has been one of exemplary and role model persons in Hemmathagama.  He completed his early education in Hemmathagama and completed  his Al Alim and Moulavi Licentiate in Weligama. He has been providing a wonderful service for Muslim community in different capacities. He is a trained teacher and has been teaching at different schools. 

He served as a Moulavi teacher  for a  long time in Errukkalamptiya school, Mannar. He had a close bond with  people of Mannar and served them during his time in Mannar,  

He has been a very good Quranic teacher. He had profound Tajweed knowledge. He had a nice voice and he recited the Quran in a beautiful voice. Most of our people in our village learned the Holy Quran from him.  He has been providing a wonderful  service to our Arabic college in Hemmathagama. He has been teaching Islam and Arabic for hundreds of students and also he has  been part of college administration board. 

He had been delivering friday sermons  in our village for a long time . I think he spent  most of time in Dippitiya, Aranayaka teaching in Dippitiya school and working as an Imam in Dippitiya mosque. He established an Arabic college in Dippitiya from which many students graduated with good knowledge in Islam and Arabic language.  He was a dedicated teacher and social worker. 

I think one of the memorable  dedications he did was his service to some displaced families who were chased out by LTTE in 1990. Due to his close connection with people of Mannar. when Muslim people were chased out from Mannar in 1991 Marhoom, Farook Moulavi sheltered some of those displaced people at his home in Kotegoda. It is  one of his great service in time of need and urgency. 

He has served in four villages: Kotegoda, Dippitiya, Palliporwa and Erukkalampitiya. For this reason I a large crowd was attended his funeral from all these villages 

He has been guiding many people in education. Many of our generation people benefited from his knowledge and talks. Moverover he has been providing some social and community works as well.

He is survived with his wife,  two daughter and grandchildren.

Janaza prayer and burial took place in Palliporuwa mosque. 

May Allah forgive him and reward him with Jennath Al-Firdas.
