Sri Lanka to sign MoU with Saudi Arabia
Foreign Employment and Welfare Minister Dilan Perera said the Sri Lankan Government is on the verge of signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Saudi Arabian government in connection with migrant Sri Lankan workers.
He told media conference where air tickets were awarded to teachers who had found employment in the Seychelles Islands, that the government had signed MOUs with the governments of Oman and Kuwait.
“For the first time ever the Saudi Arabian government had agreed to sign an MOU regarding migrant workers after it had repeatedly rejected such requests previously. The MOUs will include the welfare measures necessary to protect Lankan migrant workers. We have also signed similar MOUs with the governments of Oman and Kuwait,” the minister said.
He also said discussions were being held to introduce a quota system on the recruitment of housemaids to the Middle East.
