Sri Lankan Minister of Technology Research and Atomic Energy Patali Champika Ranawaka has called upon the Sri Lanka government to deport Maldivians who have settled down in the country as a means to find asylum.
Sri Lankan online newspaper Lanka C News reported that Maldivians are now lining in large numbers in Ratmalana, Nugegoda and Dehiwala areas in Sri Lanka, and that they had settled down in seek of asylum and that it is going to be a serious concern for the Sri Lankan government in the future.
Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka made these statements during a ceremony held to launch a book 'Al Jihad Al Qaeda'. He said that Saudi nationals who have been staying in Sri Lanka for long periods of time teaching Arabic to Muslims in Daham Paselas area had recently been involved in conflicts with regard to the ‘Halal’ certification of food.
The Technology Research and Atomic Energy Minister went on to say that more foreigners are flooding to the country owing to Burmese and Bangladeshi conflicts seeking political asylum in Sri Lanka and called to carry out a proper census and subsequent arrangements to send them to back to their countries of origin.
