CAIRO: President Muhammad Mursi will visit Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, his first foreign visit as Egypt’s head of state, Saudi Ambassador Ahmed Qattan said on Saturday.
Qattan made the announcement after his meeting with President Mursi in Cairo to deliver a message from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah and the King's invitation to visit the Kingdom.
Qattan's announcement was carried by the Saudi Press Agency, which said Mursi will also perform Umrah (minor Haj) during his state visit to the Kingdom.
Mursi, a long-time member of the Muslim Brotherhood, is the country’s first elected civilian president.
Qattan said the visit would further contribute to enhancing relations between the two countries and the two leaderships. The coming phase is expected to witness an increase in the Saudi investments size in Egypt.
"Relations between the two countries could not be confined to only economic cooperation. They are far more than that," he added.
Qattan confirmed that the Saudi investments as well as the trade exchange increased in Egypt and not lowered during the post-revolution. The number of Egyptian workers in the Kingdom has also augmented from an estimated 1.5 million before the revolution to 1.650 million in the current time, he said.
